For Healthcare Providers
Attention to physician and other provider’s well-being is increasing, and for good reason.
Physicians experience the highest suicide rate of any profession. Burnout affects up to 50% of physicians and is a common precursor to depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. The sense of betrayal experienced by many overwhelmed and exhausted clinicians takes a heavy toll, resulting not only in poor provider health and well-being, but also in poor patient care.
Proactively focusing on our well-being is not just a nice idea- it is essential to our career longevity, health, and the health of our patients.
It is likely that both system factors (increased bureaucracy, documentation requirements, productivity targets, etc.) and internal factors contribute to this burnout epidemic. System change is essential and will take steady, committed, intentional advocacy over years. How can we make a difference in the near future? Changing ourselves is something we have immediate control over. Skills such as mindfulness, setting boundaries, and combining calm assertive energy with words that are productive rather than reactive, will ultimately empower both culture and system change while nourishing our spirits along the way.
Our heart-centered empowerment workshops focus on the development of tangible skills for well-being and leadership to facilitate more meaningful and effective relationships with patients, colleagues, and team members, a renewed sense of purpose and connection in our work, and ultimately a sense of empowerment to change the culture and systems in which we practice. We promise these workshops are SO much more fun than sitting in a lecture hall all day!
Taking care of ourselves is the most valuable gift we can give to our families and our patients. Come join us. Renew your spirit. Learn new skills to maintain your well-being. Experience a sense of community from learning alongside other healthcare providers who share the unique challenges we face in healthcare. You’re worth it and your patients will thank you.

I’ve had the pleasure of being facilitated by her numerous times in the Eponaquest EFL model, and have also enjoyed working along side her, watching how she beautifully supports and teaches others. Nicole radiates joy, patience and kindness, creating the perfect atmosphere to learn and grow, while simultaneously embodying a compassionate strength to hold space. Whether you are searching for personal or professional development, you will be lucky to have Nicole as your coach.
“The Reclaim the Power of Connection; Lead in balance for Well-Being workshop was an amazing experience! I would highly recommend this workshop. It was everything I didn’t know I needed. I found the workshop particularly helpful in discussing strategies of leadership styles including positive assertiveness. The workshop brought me back to being mindful of my own thoughts and being present in the moment. My favorite part of the workshop was engaging in the horse activities- particularly when exploring boundary setting and being mindful of non-verbal communication.”
Horses…sign me up.
A long cold winter with long working hours made me notice a conference offered by one of our own UPH physicians out of Des Moines. Topics included: Avoiding burn out for the medical provider; communication; and horses. Horses. Although I would never admit it publicly, burnout was feeling more real to me every day. Horses. Communication is 90% of our job so I am always looking to learn or improve. Horses.
With excitement and curiosity, I made plans to attend. I planned to go with new eyes and an open mind. Having a life time appreciation of animals, their instincts and their connections with humans, I wanted to see how Monarch equine would utilize the world of horses to help us navigate the world of healthcare.
Frazzled, distracted, exhausted and hopeful.
The conference covered several topics. It demonstrated the role of human and animal energy in communication and respect. I gained a better understanding of Mindfulness, Boundaries, Congruency, and Emotional intelligence. We worked directly with horses in an outdoor setting to validate processes. Interacting with other health professionals allowed an exchange of great ideas and experiences. I am grateful for the shared communication. I would certainly recommend the conference.
Rested, calm, mindful, and congruent.
An investment in our learners is an investment in the future of healthcare.
Students and residents who have learned to be more mindful and aware of the way they are interacting with others and who have developed skills for resiliency will influence the health of our community and the world beyond over the course of their career.
Investing in our medical students and residents is investing in the future of our healthcare systems and communities. Your support is greatly appreciated!
